  • How To Make Pastry Crust

    One-Crust Pastry

  • 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup cold shortening
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons ice-cold water
  • Two-Crust Pastry

  • 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cold shortening
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice-cold water
  • Steps
    1. Mix flour and salt
    2. Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time to form a ball of dough
    3. Shape into a flatted circle and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 45 minutes
    4. Roll into 2 inch circles
    5. Transfer pastry to tart pan
    6. Add fillings and bake until golden brown
